How Color Harmonies Work
Color harmony refers to aesthetically pleasing arrangements of colors based on their positions on the color wheel. By using mathematical relationships between hues, you can create palettes that naturally look good together.
Harmony Types
- Complementary: Colors opposite each other on the color wheel. High contrast and vibrant.
- Analogous: Colors next to each other on the wheel. Serene and comfortable.
- Triadic: Three colors evenly spaced around the wheel (120 degrees apart). Balanced and vibrant.
- Split-Complementary: A base color plus the two colors adjacent to its complement. Less tension than complementary.
- Tetradic: Four colors arranged in two complementary pairs. Rich and varied.
- Monochromatic: Variations in saturation and lightness of a single hue. Clean and elegant.
